Linda Hood (Posted 12/14/20)
Linda Hood, age 102, a 75-year resident of Manhattan, died December 13, 2020, at Ascension
Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.
She was born December 30, 1917, in Ankeny, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Mary Canali,
and moved to Southeast Kansas at an early age. She attended elementary school in Ringo, KS,
and graduated as class valedictorian from Girard High School. She received scholarships from
Chillicothe, MO Business School and Pittsburg State College, but chose to work as a legal
secretary and later assistant to Probate Judge in Girard.
In 1940, she received a Federal Civil Service appointment at Fort Riley, KS. There she met her
future husband, Ralph Hood. They married on October 14, 1942. When he went overseas
during World War II, Linda returned home to stay with her parents and worked for three years at
the Crawford County Treasurer’s Office. After the war, they returned to live in Manhattan,
where their son Gary was born.
For several years Linda worked at home typing theses and dissertations for K-State students.
The Hood family enjoyed all sports, specifically K-State basketball, KC Royal baseball, and
Stagg Hill golf. She had the unique pleasure of having played Cribbage with her father,
husband, son and grandson, and a special brand of rummy with her granddaughter.
Ralph was stricken with Alzheimer’s Disease in his early 50’s, and she became his loving
caregiver for 15 years prior to his death on April 7, 1987.
Survivors include one son, Gary, of Sterling, VA; granddaughter Erin Hood of Overland Park,
KS, grandson Brian Hood (Amy) of Liberty, MO; and great-granddaughters Katherine and
Audrey Hood of Liberty, MO. Also surviving are two sister in-laws: Eunice Hood of Canyon
Lake, TX, and Edna (Mickey) Hays of Garland, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by one sister Wanda Raineri and one brother Nello Canali.
Cremation is planned with private family graveside services at Sunrise Cemetery.

Kenneth E. Hebrank passed away December 5, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice in Manhattan, KS.
He was born January 1, 1934 in Morris County, Kansas, to Albert and Margaret (Scott) Hebrank. Kenneth went to a rural one-room school before attending Elementary and High School in Wilsey, KS, graduating in 1951. He received a degree in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State College in 1955, and earned a commission as a 2nd lieutenant, United States Army. Following Army Flight School Kenneth became a career Army aviator and helicopter pilot. During two tours in Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal with 15 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. His last duty was as a ROTC instructor at Kansas State where he retired in 1975 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
In retirement, Kenneth volunteered at the Army Community Services Center, Fort Riley, KS, as a financial advisor, and was honored as the 1989-1990 Volunteer of the Year. He was a lifetime member of the KSU alumni association and VFW Post 1786. He valued his family and all their activities, enjoyed reading, RV travel, and was an avid golfer. He was also very fond of the pets that he had through his life.
Kenneth was married to Maurine (Ulrich) Hebrank on December 29, 1956 in the Abilene Methodist Church, Abilene, KS. They were blessed with two children, Karen Ann in 1962 and Philip in 1966.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Leroy Ulrich, and brother-in-law Royer Ulrich.
He is survived by wife Maurine, son Philip Hebrank, Manhattan, KS, daughter Karen Buhler (Bruce), Manhattan, KS, grandson Brandon Schmitter (Nicole) and great-granddaughter Ellie Rose, Basehor, KS, sister Mary Stiver (Harold), Manhattan, KS, several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

William “Bill” Roger Nowland, 62 of Manhattan died December 5, 2020 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital,
ER. Bill was born November 22, 1958 to Harold Lloyd Nowland and Elnora Jane (Brighum) Nowland in Joliet
Illinois. Bill attended local schools graduating Joliet Township East High School in 1976.
Bill was married to Audrey (Strahl) Nowland in 1977, they welcomed Naomi Lynn Nowland in 1979. The
couple later divorced.
He then joined the U.S. Army in 1981 as an armor crewman, he left active duty in 1985. He joined the U.S.
Army Reserve in 1986 as a Firefighter. He enjoyed deployments to Germany, Honduras, Egypt, Hungary,
Kosovo and Iraq. He retired as a SSG in 2005 after returning from deployment to Iraq.
Bill married Virginia Ann (Brisbin) Nowland in December 1982, she survives of the home, to this marriage
three beautiful blessings were born, Christopher, Cassandra and Crystal.
Bill was very active in the community, he officiated JR. High and High School sports for many years. He
received recognition from KSHSAA for his over 20 years of officiating. He also officiated college softball,
baseball and volleyball. He officiated and coached city league softball and baseball for kids and adults for many
years. He loved being part of the game. Bill was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 17 Manhattan
and a Past Commander of the post. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1786 of
Manhattan.
Bill enjoyed other hobbies such as bowling in which he rolled a 300 game in January of 1994, golf and
softball. He also loved to play games of all sorts, especially dominoes.
After leaving the military Bill worked at several places including 20 years at KSU, Murdock Auto Mall,
Midwest Concrete Materials, USD 383, Big Lakes Developmental Center, Farrar Corp and ATA Bus.
Survivors include a son Chris Nowland of Manhattan, daughters Naomi Mejia of Madisonville Kentucky,
Cassie (Chase) Elliott of Oak Harbor, Washington and Crystal (Patrick) Rountree of Manhattan. Grandchildren
Priscilla Menijver, Jorge Herrera, Isabella Herrera, Britney Nowland, Bradley Nowland, Colton Elliott, Cooper
Elliott & Connor Elliott, Eric Nowland, Emaleigh Rountree, Everleigh Rountree and Evan Rountree.
He is also survived by his father Harold Nowland, Joliet, Illinois brothers Eugene Nowland of South Carolina,
Richard Nowland of Joliet Illinois, a sister Laura (James) Dahl of Santa Fe Texas, sister-in-law Tammy Nowland
Braceville, Illinois as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Elnora
Nowland, his in-laws Carey & Merna Brisbin, nephew Keegan Nowland and one unborn grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. Thursday, December 10 th , at the Yorgensen-Meloan-
Londeen Funeral Home.
Private family services will be held with interment in the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley with full
military honors and Pastor Brian Smith officiating.

Alice Elizabeth (Davis) (Krchma) Morton, age 78, of Manhattan, died Friday December 4, 2020, in Manhattan.

She was born on November 19, 1942 in Santa Barbara, California, the daughter of Horace and Mary Jane (Neito) Davis. Alice always had a passion and drive for knowledge and education. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University for costuming and design. Later she received her master’s degree from Louisiana State University in historical costuming.
She was married to L. John Krchma, they later divorced. She was then married to Elbert E. Morton, he preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and siblings: Mary Jane Dover and Lorelei Davis, and her brother-in-law Vincent Dover.
Alice was a patron for the arts and her artistic hobbies included knitting, crocheting, tatting, quilting, drawing and painting. She always enjoyed being with and caring for her family. Her greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren and babysitting her great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan, where she enjoyed her time with her prayer group. She also attended St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City with her family members.
She is survived by her daughters: Barbara Campbell (Gregory), Michele Pruitt (Mikel), and Laurie Bartlett (Thomas); her step-daughter, Monica Morton, step-son Drexel Morton (Mary);her sister, Veronica McClure; her first husband, L. John Krchma; and her 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday December 9, 2020 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan. The Rosary will be read following the visitation at 7:00 p.m.
The Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. Thursday December 10, 2020 at the St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held following the Rosary at 10:30 a.m., with Father Kulandi as Celebrant. Private inurnment will be held at the Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggest to the St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan or to St. Xavier Catholic Church or the St. Xavier Catholic School in Junction City. Daisy Rae Mahoney was born September 3, 1936 in Cairo, IL to Ray and Yula (Wilson) Mahoney and died December 3, 2020. She grew up in Mounds, IL surrounded by family and friends! She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. Daisy attended Mounds Thistlewood Grade School and Mounds Township High School in Mounds and graduated from Southern Illinois University Votechnial Institute in May 1957.
During Daisy’s school age years, she was very active in school, 4-H, American Legion Post 178, and attended Illi Girl’s State and church activities. She also was a junior and an adult assistant 4-H leader after marriage. As her sons grew up, she was a Cub Scout den mom and helped with Boy Scouts.
On March 30, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, George Russell Dille. They have two sons—James Ray (Cynthia Knauft) and Russell Eugene (Anita), three grandsons George Russell (Anna), Clinton Ray (Emma), and Jacob Krin, one great-grandson, Ellis Russell, and two great-grandbabies on the way, Rylen Rae and baby Dille. She is also survived by her brother, James ‘Buddy’ Wilson Mahoney, brother-in-law, James F. Dille (Mary), cousins, and many nieces/nephews too! Daisy and George also have “children borrowed from other parents”: Barbara Cobuluis, Keith Critchlow, Kris Crowder, Kelley Graves, Ed and Steve Montgomery. All were very special to her! Her family was the most important thing in her life!
Daisy and George cherished their time together in the many places they lived: Mounds, IL, Killeen, TX, St. Louis and Hannibal, MO, Topeka, KS, Eden Prairie, MN and Manhattan, KS. When living in Minnesota they camped and rode bicycles over many trails in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota plus camped in many places in the midnorthern US and Canada. They also camped in the southwest, Atlantic seaboard and Texas. She enjoyed traveling with George in the US and to Europe. Daisy enjoyed reading while George fished in the beautiful outdoors. Daisy also enjoyed quilting and working on photo albums for her family in Manhattan. Daisy loved watching the men’s Minnesota Gopher’s basketball, K-State baseball and basketball teams, Junction City baseball, and most of all, watching her grandkids participate in sport activities!
During the Topeka years, Daisy worked for USD501 and was very active in the national and state organizations for Office Personnel. When in Minnesota, she worked for the Synod of Lakes and Prairies, Presbyterian Church, Bloomington, MN until she retired in October 1998. They moved back to Manhattan, KS to be nearer to family.
One of Daisy’s favorite memories was watching the sun coming up on Lake Superior at Madeline Island in Wisconsin! Yes, she did get up to watch it!

Lois Evelyn Brackett Meeth passed away November 28, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS. She was 90 years old.
Lois was born in Competition, MO on December 9, 1929 to Myrtle Handley Brackett and Thomas Brackett. The seventh of eight children, Lois loved fishing and playing cards with her family. During WW II, Lois and her family moved to Kansas City, where her parents worked in a munitions factory. During this time, Lois attended school in Argentine, helped care for her younger brother and niece, and worked after school at Reich’s Café. After the war, her family returned to Competition, where Lois graduated from high school. Following graduation, she attended a one-year teacher’s college and taught for a year in rural Missouri.
On October 11, 1947, Lois married Ernest Meeth of Lebanon, MO. Lois and Ernie had two daughters, Michele and Marla. Lois spent most of her adult life in the Kansas City area, where she held a variety of administrative positions. In the 1970s, she began work as a purchasing agent for the Kansas City branch of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a position she held until her retirement in 1997. In 1991, Lois was named National FDA Employee of the Year in recognition of her expertise, helpfulness, and dedication. After retirement, Lois remained active by volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, traveling, and spending time with relatives and friends.
Lois was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her siblings: Melvin Brackett, Sylvia Koehler, Marie Hurley, William “Buster” Brackett, Merle Brackett, Lillian Hurley, and Charles “Joe” Brackett.
She is survived by daughters, Michele Uttley of Blue Springs, MO and Marla Pyle (Kurt) of Westmoreland, KS. Her four grandchildren also survive her: Matthew Uttley of Independence, MO; Lyle Uttley (Megan) of Austin, TX; Katie Uttley of Columbia, MO; and Bailey Fritz (Jeremy) of Manhattan, KS. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial service plans will be announced later.

Kennith Gordon Skare, age 58, of Manhattan, died December 1, 2020.
He was born June 7, 1962, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Kennith served for 20 years in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant, retiring in 2000. He then worked as a diesel engine mechanic for the Army National Guard and later for Federal Civil Service at Fort Riley in the Environmental Office.
He enjoyed being outdoors including hunting, fishing and skiing and also enjoyed bowling.
On July 10, 1981, in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was married to Jeani Pringle. Jeani survives of the home; additional survivors include their two sons: Dallas Skare of Denver, CO, and Shayne Skare of Manhattan.
Cremation is planned. Private family services with military honors will be at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery at Fort Riley.

Deanna Kay Anderson, age 73, of Manhattan, died November 30th at her residence.
She was born August 18, 1947, in Manhattan, the daughter of Earl Junior and Ilene Marie (McClure) Colbert.
Deanna graduated from Manhattan High School and attended Krum’s Beauty College.
She worked in the Jardine Junior High School cafeteria, then in the treasurer’s office in Topeka working in the tag department, she then acquired a job with the Kansas Highway Patrol directing all incoming calls.
Deanna enjoyed her many trips to the Casino’s with her mother and sister, (aka 3 amigo’s) traveling, driving a new car, tanning, and always made sure she was well dressed. She very much enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved to spoil her dogs: Holly, Mitzi and Cheyenne.
She was married to Thomas Patrick Maguire and they later divorced. She married Donald Carl Anderson and they were happily married for 34 years. Don preceded her in death on July 8, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Charles Glasscock (Posted 12/2/20)
Charles E. Glasscock Sr. age 82, of Manhattan, died November 28, 2020 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.
He was born on June 19, 1938 in Wetumpka, Alabama, the son of James and Sarah (Swindel) Glasscock. He quit school at the 8th grade to work to help provide for his parents and eight siblings. He was drafted into the Army and became the highest scoring cadet in his Officers’ Cadet Training School (OCS) graduating class.
Charlie served two tours in Vietnam. He was in the infantry, paratrooper, and a Ranger. He commanded a Battalion in Hawaii at Schofield Barracks, after his service in Vietnam. He retired after 30 years of service.
Charlie attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 1974. He later earned his Masters Degree from Wichita State University.
Charlie and his family moved to Manhattan in 1978. He worked for Waters’ True Value for 20 years.
He loved NFL and College Football, especially Alabama Crimson Tide, and watching NASCAR races. Also, he enjoyed to go golfing, fishing, hunting turkey with his grandson, and gardening.
As a southern gentleman, he loved his fried chicken every Sunday. Charlie always had a ready smile and a greeting for people he met. He loved and adopted stray animals, loved rainy days, thunderstorms, enjoyed listening to birds and walks in nature. Spring and Summer were his favorite seasons. Additionally, he was a life-long, prolific reader, especially when it came to Shakespeare and Hemmingway. He loved listening to classical and country music; he especially loved The Three Tenors.
Charlie is survived by his wife Rosamunde Glasscock, daughter Carmen Noel Dorr, son Charles Edward Glasscock, Jr.; grandsons: Derek and Staton Eichman, granddaughter, Alexandra Eichman, and great-granddaughter Lera Eichman.
Graveside Services with full military honors will be held on Friday December 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road in Manhattan.

Rayford “Ray” Willingham, age 92, of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, died Thursday November 26, 2020.
He was born on March 15, 1928 in Love County, Overbrook, Oklahoma, the son of John Martin and Mary Clara (Brawley) Willingham. Ray attended schools in the area and went to Meadowbrook High School in Love County, Oklahoma. Ray then went to and graduated from the Tulsa Barber College in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On February 20, 1949 in Manhattan, he was united in marriage to Lucille Gier. She survives at their home in Sylvan Grove.
Ray served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked as a barber for many years and then he also owned and operated a bicycle repair shop for 6 years before retiring.
He and Lu moved to Sylvan Grove when he retired in 1991. He spent many days fishing on Lake Wilson.
Ray was preceded in death by his son Kim Dong Chan Willingham and his grandson, Justin Lee Willingham.
In addition to his wife Ray is survived by his children, Pate Wayne Willingham (Judy) of Manhattan and Mark Willingham of Las Vegas, Nevada and also his daughter-in-law, Young Hoi Willingham of Manhattan. Also, his grandchildren: Timothy Ray Willingham (Kate), Steven Kim Willingham (Minah), Jon Young Willingham, Chantel Lea Vogel (David), Alia Page Nicholson (Derek), Dalton Duane Willingham, Alicia Sailors Willingham and his 14 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Imogene Gentry, Bobby Jo Willingham, Nona Ruth Kucharski, Harold Dean Willingham, Martin Junior Willingham, and Mary Lou Hensley.
Graveside Services will be private the Valley View Memorial Gardens in Manhattan.
